Robert J. Robel

Dr. Robel, retired KSU emeritus professor of Environmental Biology, received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, and his master’s and doctorate from the University of Idaho and Utah State University. He has given lectures at universities in many countries, including Sweden, England, Denmark, Russia, Estonia, Norway, and Iceland. During his tenure at K-State, he taught such courses as General Zoology, General Biology, Animal Ecology, Wildlife Management Techniques, and Wildlife Conservation.

Bob is also the recipient of numerous awards, like the Lifetime Achievement Award from Utah State University, and being inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame at the University of Idaho. He received both the Professional Award and the Outstanding Professional Award from the Kansas Chapter of the Wildlife Society, and has an Honorary Life Membership to the Kansas Wildlife Federation. Other professional society involvements include the Society for Field Ornithology, Society for Conservation Biology, Wilson Ornithological Society, and the British Ecological Society. Bob has co-authored over 250 articles published in science and wildlife journals.

Bob is an active gun collector and competitive shotgun and rifle shooter who formerly held state titles in Idaho and Michigan. He has several hunting trophies that have met Boone and Crockett Club record status. He is a twenty year veteran of drive grouse shooting in Scotland and has recently expanded his hunting activities to include stalking of red deer stags and roebucks in Scotland and Russia, as well as shooting wood pigeons and driven pheasants in the United Kingdom.
