Marjorie Streckfus

After having been a member of the Connecticut Audubon Society, Marge Streckfus joined the Smoky Hills Audubon in 1977, when an Evening With Audubon caught her interest. The group’s diversity of interests, their commitment to promoting the protection of the environment both locally and nationally brought about her immediate membership. At that time there was a not a statewide organization, but with Ron Klataske as National Vice-President of the area and Ed Pembleton in the Manhattan office, statewide and area wide concerns were addressed and nature trips around the multi-state area were held.

Shortly after, the Kansas Audubon Council was formed, precursor of the present Audubon of Kansas. “Such a group with Ron Klataske as Director is essential so that Auduboners share and communicate in helping chapters, and all those interested get to know the diversified natural life of our state, keep abreast of environmental challenges and have a state political presence.”

Ray Streckfus, deceased, was a Saline County native from a family farm dating from the 1870’s. During their marriage the couple lived in Connecticut and Kansas, being engaged in building contracting, real estate, and farming. Five children are alive and well at points east and west.
Before marriage, Marge taught Speech and Drama at Marymount College. Born in Connecticut, she came to Kansas after receiving her Master’s Degree at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.

She has served as President of Smoky Hills Audubon as well as in other positions, and presently is interested in promoting Audubon Adventures.

We invite you to participate and contribute to our conservation efforts and keep Audubon of Kansas moving forward. Your tax-deductible contributions and volunteer efforts sustain our non-profit organization and are essential to all aspects of our work—from advocacy, legislative liaison, education, and support of wildlife-friendly landowners, to our office staff, publications and website. We need your commitment!
