| What
Can a Person do to Help Wildlife-Friendly Landowners and Wildlife--Including
Colonies of Black-tailed Prairie Dogs--On Their Land?
1). One of
the most important things that Kansas residents can do is
to urge members of the Kansas
Legislature to repeal or appropriately revise the eradication
statutes enacted a century ago. The most important
members to contact are everyone’s own state representative
and state senator, and leaders of both legislative chambers
and committee chairpersons with responsibility for natural
resources.
2). Encourage
other state officials to step to the plate and do what they
can to facilitate legislative repeal or appropriately revision
of the eradication statutes. Members of the Kansas
Wildlife and Parks Commission, the governor’s
cabinet and others from both political parties should
be urging leaders of the Kansas Legislature to repeal these
embarrassing statutes.
3). Stay in
the Loop and Stay Involved. Stay in touch with Audubon
of Kansas and/or any other organization that will keep you
up to date on developments and/or post timely information
on a website. Please let us know if you want to be specifically
included with any communications on the subject. We plan to
enhance our attention to this responsibility with this website,
our AOK e-Newsletter, Action Alerts and the AOK
Blog.
