Conservation and Stewardship

Certainly the most visible aspects of our work take place in the realm of conservation and stewardship. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that future generations will have an environment to enjoy.

Audubon of Kansas owns and maintains the 5,000 acre Hutton Sanctuary on the Niobrara River near Bassett Nebraska. The property was given to us by Harold and Lucille Hutton to operate as a working ranch and wildlife sanctuary and it serves as a resting area for Whooping Cranes and Sandhill Cranes in migration, as a nesting area for Least Terns, and as a source of fish for wintering and migratory Bald Eagles.
