Audubon of Kansas June 9 Meeting Moved to Oakley
* A Special Field Trip--Everyone is invited!

Based on a special opportunity, the chairman of our Board elected to shift the June 9 Audubon of Kansas Board of Trustees meeting from Bassett, Nebraska to Oakley, Kansas. Audubon of Kansas has been working with several extraordinary “wildlife-friendly” western Kansas ranch landowners who are trying to retain several thousand acres of prairie dog colonies and are hoping to host the first reintroduction of Black-footed Ferrets in the Great Plains south of S.D. and Wyoming. It will be good for Audubon members and others to see the properties south of Russell Springs so we can network to build additional public and political support for these incredible landowners--and the wildlife resources they are striving to maintain and manage.

This area serves as a magnet for Burrowing Owls that nest in abundance in this prairie dog complex. In addition, in recent years Swift Foxes have raised their young here. The field trip will include a tour of these properties and the chance to see an abundance and variety of wildlife including Jack Rabbits, Ferruginous Hawks and Pronghorn Antelope. Everyone--including those not on the Board of Trustees—are invited to attend the meeting and field trips.

We need your commitment!
