Join Us in Protecting the Great Plains

For 25 years, Audubon of Kansas has shown how passionate individuals can drive real change in environmental advocacy, conservation, and education. As we look ahead to the next 25 years, we need dedicated volunteers like you to help us continue this important work.

Habitat Helpers

Roll up your sleeves and make a direct impact by helping with invasive species removal and trail maintenance. This work involves physical labor, and while experience with chainsaws, brush hogs, or weed eaters is helpful, volunteers of all skill levels are welcome—there’s plenty to do! Our protected areas near Lincoln, KS, and Bassett, NE, are especially in need of support. Housing may be available for volunteers or volunteer groups at our Nebraska property.

Join our Advocacy Efforts

Are you frustrated by the destruction of wildlife and habitat and looking for a way to make a real difference? Join AOK’s Advocacy Committee and work alongside others to strategically shape public outreach, legislative initiatives, and policy efforts for the greatest impact. We are especially seeking individuals with experience in state and local government or those passionate about any of our key advocacy areas, including endangered species conservation (Whooping Cranes, Black-footed Ferrets, prairie-chickens), water and wetland protection (Cheyenne Bottoms, Quivira), invasive species management (Old World bluestem, Sericea, salt cedar, eastern red cedar), and responsible wind and solar energy siting. Your voice and expertise can help shape the future of conservation!

History Preservation

Are you passionate about archiving, history, or museum work? After 25 years, we’ve gathered a wealth of documents and photos that need organization. We’re looking for detail-oriented volunteers to help standardize and archive our materials for easy retrieval.

We’re also looking for storytellers to help uncover the background behind our work. Who are our founding members and Protected Areas donors? What can we learn from the history of the lands we manage? And what stories emerge from the Hutton collections—Harold’s writings, Lucille’s artwork, Native American artifacts, and geology and fossil finds?
